The Chief Accountant is the head of the accounting team and manages activities of both financial and management accounting. They are responsible for preparing financial and performance reports, assisting departments with annual budgets and reviews, internal control, and tax studies.

Chief Accountants are professionals who oversee all aspects of the bookkeeping process and commonly work with accountants and auditors to ensure that financial records are accurate, complete, and compliant with relevant regulations. Chief Accountants may also be tasked with developing systems procedures to improve efficiency or accuracy. The Chief Accountant also has to create automated reports or databases to make it easier to track transactions or generate reports in the future.

The Chief Accountant typically spends the majority of the work day on a desk in front of a computer screen, filing papers, making copies, reviewing reports, and checking invoices. They usually work from 9 to 5 but the timing can change depending on the organization they are working in. They share an office with other staff or have a desk in a central, open location. But it is common for all Chief Accountants to interact with many of the other employees throughout the day.

Salary

The Chief Accountant’s salary in India ranges between ₹ 1.4 Lakhs to ₹ 7.0 Lakhs with an average annual salary of ₹ 3.5 Lakhs.

With Experience in accounting and bookkeeping one can build a successful career as a Chief Accountant. Usually, they start as an intern or in a junior post and have to work to the level of being a senior Chief Accountant.
