Introduction

Content Strategists are responsible for planning, overseeing, and managing the content marketing strategy for a business. They develop, execute, and manage content strategies to attract companies’ target audiences. They also help to increase company profitability by building brand loyalty and finding ways to improve customer retention.

Skills and Abilities

  1.  Digital Marketing: The second most common technical skill for a content strategist is digital marketing and this appears on 10.0% of resumes. Digital Marketing skills are important if you want to become a digital content strategist.
  2. Content monetization skill: The content strategist must be able to plan how the content can get customers to buy the product or service and thereby earn revenue. 
  3. Excellent copywriting skills: Excellent copywriting skills are needed to plan, direct, design, and edit content that gets results. The strategist should be comfortable with laying out the existing content architecture to identify where content is located and how it functions 
  4. Communication skill: Content Strategists often have to work with many other strategists, such as search engine optimization (SEO) experts, Content Strategists, designers, and more. Therefore, good Communication skills are needed and result in efficient teamwork which will help to produce good marketing strategies.
  5. Content Management System Proficiency: The manager should be familiar with popular content management systems such as CMS Hub and WordPress because they will be directly editing the content on your company’s website. 
  6.  Content Delivery : Once the content is ready for production, the manager must have the skills to present it to the audience. The manager will have to work with other digital marketing experts on the marketing team to determine the best distribution channels.

Job Description

The job description involves planning, designing, creating, editing, and publishing relevant content based on the company’s business objectives and users’ needs. The strategist’s main job is to create a content strategy that helps to achieve business goals and to inform, entertain, inspire and engage potential customers. However, the main focus of the content strategist job description is content planning, which includes content creation, curation, planning, and research.

The candidate must have completed 10th standard from any recognized educational board.

The Candidate should then complete the HSC exam from a recognized board.

Most Content Strategists have a bachelor’s degree in digital marketing/ advertising/ mass media.

After the Candidate Completes their Graduation, they can go for a master’s degree even though it is not necessary.

The candidate should try to gain at least 50-60% marks to be eligible to enter the Commerce stream since this stream is most suitable for getting a foundation in marketing.

Content Strategist mainly prefer the commerce stream however it is not a hard and fast rule.

However it is not a hard and fast rule to hold a degree, however, most employers prefer candidates who have a degree. Certifications in marketing may also be beneficial here.

Some common master’s programs:


  • MBA Marketing
  • Masters in Digital Marketing
  • M. Com
 

The candidate should try to gain at least a minimum of 50-60% marks. Then they may  become eligible for a bachelor’s course.

After Graduation, the candidates can either look for a Job in an organization for a  Junior position or go for further learning.

To get to the position of Content Strategist one needs to have sufficient experience in the Industry, preferably a minimum of 1-4 years.

Work Environment and Schedule

Usually Content Strategists work in an office environment. The working hours of the manager vary from company to company but are expected to be more than 40 per week. A content strategist’s job is not stress free. Managing strategic projects on tight schedules is not easy. Flexibility and keeping cool under pressure are also key during difficult or unpredictable times.

Salary

Salary of a Content Strategist in India ranges between ₹ 2.7 Lakhs to ₹ 14.0 Lakhs with an average annual salary of ₹ 5.5 Lakhs.
